This week's Artsy Schmartsy Do List

It's getting nasty this week. Art attacked, faked and assaulted. You'll also probably get beer spilled on your flip-flops, but that should be no surprise. Art is one messy business.

ART SMACKDOWN
Oh, goodie! An evening of theater steeped in Dadaist traditions that promises to be unsafe for everyone at the performance! Sometimes you gotta be curious about art that just taunts you. And this week Insurgent Theatre and FTAM, a new experimental arts group, have teamed up to double-dare us in an event called Made in the Mouth. During this series of Friday and Saturday performances, the two groups do what they think must be done: attack art!

I'm putting my money on art earning a bruising, bloody victory over the brave young turks taking on this dazzling task. If nothing else, this show, featuring three new works written by Peter J. Woods (FTAM leader), will be an exercise in extremes. You'll either really love it or really hate it. But, hey, that's art, and that's never gonna change.

The series opens Friday and runs through July 14 at the Astor Theatre, 1696 N. Astor St. Visit www.insurgenttheatre.org for more info.
